Salmon River, NY is fishing well

Salmon River, Pulaski, NY

I spoke with the folks at Whitakers Fly Shop today and the word was good. Air temps are in the mid-40's, but the river is staying cold from snow-melt. Fly fishermen have found success all over the river using various egg patterns (sizes 8-10), black stone flies (size 10) and nymphs for steelhead and the occasional brown trout.

Last year the drop-back happened three weeks earlier than typical. By the time the Fly Zone opened up, the water was low and warm. If you are planning a trip, now through the first week in April should be productive.

Whitakers has a nice River Map if you are headed out soon.
