Tar sands

I got an email from Patagonia the other day about Tar Sands and I thought it would be a perfect time to spread awareness and do some research of my own.

Tar sands talks are growing and people have started to take a stand. Recently, New Englanders marched in Portland, Maine in protest of exporting oil locally. Others have protested outside gas stations and blocked bridges to create awareness of this social movement of preventing the spread of tar sands oil nationwide.

This oil is transported from Canada to the United States in large pipes across wetlands, over rivers, and near lakes. A damaged pipe could do extreme damage to fisheries nationwide. A pipe bursting can create a domino affect from a field, to a river and finally reaching a lake affecting many ecosystems.

If you feel passionately about preventing the pipeline, I urge you to take a few minutes and write a note to the U.S. State Department.

Keep on fishin' on.
